ECONOMIC SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Washburn County is seeking applicants for an Economic Support Specialist position within the Department of Health and Human Services. This position determines eligibility and provides ongoing case management for Washburn County/Great Rivers Income Maintenance Consortium in a timely and accurate manner for the following public assistance programs: Medical Assistance, BadgerCare Plus, Food Share/SNAP, Caretaker Supplement, and Wisconsin Shares Child Care subsidies. This position has the capacity to be performed in a hybrid work model with the intention to be primarily in remote work status. This position requires two or more years of college or technical school training and three or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, and a valid WI driver’s license. EMPLOYMENT APPLICATIONHIGHWAY MECHANIC
Washburn County is accepting applications for the Mechanic position with the Highway Department. Duties and responsibilities of this position include: operating a variety of hand, electric and air-driven tools; testing, servicing and repairing vehicles and mechanical equipment; calling vendors for parts and supplies used for vehicle and mechanical system maintenance, performing vehicle body repair, touch-up and related work, and any other tasks as requested. Qualifications – High school diploma or equivalent with two years’ post-secondary formal preparation/training/education in automotive or diesel mechanics, maintenance management or closely related field, three years of related experience, and valid WI driver’s license. Must have knowledge of auto mechanics, gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves, generator and welding; working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities. All tools provided by Washburn County Highway Department. Starting salary range is $24.09 – $26.16/hr D.O.Q. plus excellent benefits. EMPLOYMENT APPLICATIONSEASONAL HIGHWAY WORKERS
Washburn County is seeking applicants in the Highway Department for Highway Seasonal workers. The purpose of this position is to provide additional assistance for summer operations of highway maintenance. The primary functions of this position include but are not limited to shoveling gravel and rock picking, cleaning and maintaining equipment, traffic flagging, mowing with light-duty tractors, and pothole patching.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to effectively use hand tools. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work independently. Good physical condition necessary to perform job duties; including ability to lift heavy loads, ability to work in extreme heat/adverse weather conditions, and ability to stand for long periods of time. Must be punctual, possess a strong work ethic, and be able to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have graduated from high school or passed a high school equivalency-based test (GED). Must have a valid WI driver’s license, and possess a good driving record. The starting wage is $17.03/hr. This is a temporary seasonal position not to exceed 600 hours. This position is for the 2025 construction season, and will begin after the snow & frost are gone. Washburn County Sheriff’s Department is accepting applications for a Full-Time Jail Nurse.
The primary responsibilities of the Jail Nurse is to perform professional nursing services for inmates within the Washburn County Jail facility; related to planning, organizing, monitoring, and implementing nursing and medical care services. The Jail Nurse works independently under the direction of the Jail Physician, and supervision of the Sheriff, or designee.
Some of the qualifications required are: Must be 21 years of age, have an Associate’s Degree in nursing; currently licensed; experience in general medicine is desired. Must be BLS certified, and able to assess a variety of medical situations. Candidates must have excellent reading, writing, oral communication and computer skills, as well as able to follow complex written, and oral instructions. Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate inmate needs is also required.
Physical & mental requirements include; ability to remain calm, think clearly and act rapidly in emergency situations; must be able to bend, stoop, twist and turn, climb up and down stairs, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. EMPLOYMENT APPLICATIONSUPPORT STAFF AT THE OAK YOUTH CENTER
Washburn County is seeking applicants for Support Staff at The Oak Youth Center within the Department of Health and Human Services. Oak Support staff will assist with programming and general activity oversight of youth utilizing The Oak Youth Center, located in Spooner, WI. The Oak Youth Center services all students ages 11- 17 in Washburn County. This position will comprise of a pool of staff available to work causal hours as requested throughout the year. Ability to work late afternoons/evenings and weekends is necessary.
Required: A high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience with working with youth preferred as well as the ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of youth management and current issues facing youth in the community. LTE Jailer/Dispatcher
Washburn County is accepting applications for a LTE (casual status) Jailer/Dispatcher. The Dispatcher will relay messages and dispatch personnel and equipment by radio communication in response to crimes, accidents, fires, medical emergencies, etc. The employee is responsible for the receipt and accurate transcription of messages by radio and telephone and for various clerical functions in the Sheriff’s Department. As a Jailer, the employee performs a variety of duties involving the operation of the jail and the safety and security of inmates. The work is performed within the established guidelines and under the general supervision of the Jail Administrator and Sheriff. Candidates must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more and occasionally deal with and or subdue unruly inmates. Must possess a valid State of Wisconsin driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one. Starting pay is $20.07 during training and increases to $23.58 upon successful completion of training.
