Ski Trails

28 Jan 2026

Washburn County Forestry, Parks and Recreation Department maintains two ski trail systems. Current status of these systems are as follows:

Nordic Woods Ski Trail: Located just southwest of Stone Lake, Nordic Woods offers an excellent trail for hiking during the summer and fall. There is a total of 12.6 kilometers (7 miles) of trails with cut across trails giving you the option of skiing a number of different loops.  During the winter months, Nordic Woods offers an excellent groomed and tracked ski trail for classic skiing on one side, where the other side is groomed for skate style skiing. Nordic Woods offers two parking locations. One is located off of Dubois Road on the south side of Highway 70. The other is located off of County Highway B.

Condition Update: As of 1/21/2026, grooming operations have been conducted and the trail is now open. Current packed snow base is roughly 4-5″, with one side being tracked. We will continue to maintain the system throughout the snow season.

Totogatic Ski Trail: Located 2 miles north of Minong on Highway 53, Totogatic Ski Trail offers great hiking during the summer and fall. With a total of 11.1 kilometers (6.9 miles) of trails with multiple shortcuts and cut across sections, there is an endless number of routes you can take. During the winter months, Totogatic Ski Trail is groomed and tracked for classic skiing on one side, where the other side is groomed for skate style skiing.

Condition Update: As of 1/20/2026, grooming operations have been conducted and the trail is now open. Current packed snow base is roughly 4-5″, with one side being tracked. We will continue to maintain the system throughout the snow season. The farther loop, Loop C past the Adirondack Shelter, has not been groomed for this season. This section crosses a swamp. With the first snowfall of the year in November, the swamp did not have time to freeze; therefore, we are unable to get our groomer across the swamp section. Loops A and B have both been packed, groomed, and tracked.
